Someone titled a 'narrow minded' person in today's culture is rarely being complemented. It normally means you aren't open to learning new things or hearing someone's point of view that's different then your own. 'You are so narrow minded' is normally spewed in disgust. Someone isn't 'with the times', they're just so narrow minded and unaccepting of new ideas. Yet, interestingly Jesus tells us the Narrow way is the only way.
"Enter by the NARROW gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few."
Matthew 7:13
Having a narrow mind isn't always bad. The world has so so much to offer us. It wants to show us we can really have and be whatever we want, whenever we want it. We could by a guy, we could be a girl, who cares what biology says or who you hurt, just step on whoever's face you need to, to get what you want. Because YOU deserve it. You deserve it all. It's true what the bible says about people with itching ears accumulating prophets and teachings that they want to hear.
"For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths." 2 Timothy 4:3-4
We want to hear things that suit our needs and lusts, those are the preachers, teachers, and authors we're going to listen to on the daily. Because we want what we want. We're sinful. We want a WIDE way that allows us to dive into whatever satisfies at the moment. However, it simply leads to destruction that wide way we want. It's the narrow way,... the narrow mind, with many less travelers that will lead to life. We can have a narrow mind. We can have the knowledge that we cannot have or get everything we want. If you are a male, you are a male, if female then female. That's just how God made you and for His own Glory so really, who are we to question?
We can be narrow minded in our knowledge that the bible is TRUTH. That God is the ONLY way, truth and life. He is Creator and keeper of all things. He has given us His word, fully finished from cover to cover. We need not beg for a still, small voice in our head to add some sweet personal Word from God just for us. We don't need to sit, with our bible away and our minds open and empty, ready to hear a new word from the Lord. He gave us His perfect, finished word. We can be narrow minded and KNOW His will. His will for our lives is that we Glorify Him with every moment He's given us. He gave us minds to be filled with the knowledge and wisdom of His word. There will never come a time before we're in heaven, when we are mature enough in Him that we can throw away scripture and rely on our inner impressions and thoughts. They are always to be aligned by scripture before we can act upon them. A mature believer is one who relies on what he knows to be true; the word of God. Be narrow minded with me as we study and meditate on the TRUTH in this everchanging and accepting all world.
